The cold winds have forced three groups of vampires to find food in the small town of Barsea. Sheltered in the mountains forming the Barsea Heights and with the midwinter solstice creating short days, the vampires boldly walk the city, feasting on the people. There is only one problem: the vampire sects each have a blood oath to destroy the other. Only one sect can survive and reap the rewards of the hunt.
Which group will you align yourself with?
About the game
Midwinter Vampires is a game that can be played in three different ways. You get to choose if you will follow the storyline of the Whispering Night, Bone Brothers, or Youngblood vampire sects. For every encounter in the game, additional information will influence the storyline the players are following. Will the players be a Youngblood looking to clear their records? Will the Bone Brothers convince the players that they need to eradicate all vampires to create a pure breed? Or will the players align with the Whispering Night and restore the macabre balance between the vampires and the townspeople of Barsea?
But, I hear you say, won't the vampires attack the PCs? Good question! The game also comes with a complete Vampire Class that players can use to create their characters. The class will have a complete breakdown of how to be a vampire for levels 1-20.
In the game, the players can explore through a castle at the top of Barsea Heights, find out what is hidden in the Bone Cathedral, and search through the town to find find the secrets that are being kept hidden.
Good luck.... and remember: be the hero in your adventure.
Introducing the Three Vampire Sects
Three vampire sects are vying for power over Barsea. They are:
Whispering Night
The Whispering Night family resides in the castle at the top of the highest mountain in Barsea Heights. Their charismatic leader, Marcus, has remained unposed for hundreds of years. His sister, Lisha, is thirsty for power and will do what she can to take leadership away from Marcus. And their younger brother, Treznor, has fallen in love with Lucia, the leader of the Youngblood. But family is a tight bond and the three members of Whispering Night hold to their family vows. The town of Barsea and the Whispering Night vampires share an uneasy truce. The thirst that the vampires can never quench is satisfied through volunteers from Barsea. Each volunteer will ask for immortality, and occasionally, the Whispering Night sect will grant that wish. In return, the Whispering Night family protects the people of Barsea from invaders. The Bone Brothers and Youngblood are the latest invaders to know the wrath of the Whispering Night.
Bone Brothers
Outside the city limits to Barsea is a cathedral made from human bones. Father Quinn, Brothers Nostro, and Marius pray and worship their devil god. All three are zealot vampires who see their sect as a pure line of vampirism and are committed to eradicating impure vampires. For many years there has been an uneasy stalemate between the Whispering Night and the Bone Brothers. The arrival of the Youngbloods sect has recently allowed the Bone Brothers to tip the balance of power in their direction. The Bone Brothers will use the Youngblood to distract the Whispering Nights' attention. While the Whispering Night and Youngbloods battle, the Bone Brothers will seize an opportunity to take control and reign as the supreme, pure race.
Youngblood
A group of skinny teenagers arrived shortly before the solstice. At first, the teenagers were ignored, with Barsea's townspeople seeing them as vagabonds. And then bodies were found with tell-tell signs of vampirism. It did not take long for the Youngbloods to be branded as outcasts, bringing a new level of fear to the people. For their part, the Youngbloods are a group of vampires that were bitten when they were teenagers and are now trying to survive. They did not kill the people in the town, but they were all too familiar with being branded. This has happened time and again. Hence, they wonder, nomads, moving from one place to another. The Youngbloods suspect the Bone Brothers for the kills. Their leader, Lucia, is strong-willed and impatient and wants to take the fight to the other sects to find out who has wrongly implicated the Youngbloods. Joining her are Ulysses and Jade. These teenage vampires will feel revenge against those that scorn their name.
